1. Introduction:
According to IGD research in 2011, there are around 88,441 grocery stores in the UK. There are totally 919, 2 supermarket stores, superstores and hypermarkets. (IGD, 2012)? Supermarkets retail is a range of groceries and food lines, which is closely related to our daily life. In this project, it will mainly discuss and show that in UK what key factors determine the success of the supermarket retailing industry.
For finishing the project better, an interim report is extremely necessary. In this interim report, I will briefly introduce the reason why choose the supermarket retailing industry and select these companies chosen. Moreover, it is must to provide the detailed environment scan through PEST analysis and essential ratios

Supermarket is playing a far more important role in our daily life, which has been being a necessary part of our lives. Supermarket industry is also a major segment of UK economy and comprises farmers, manufacturers, wholesalers. There are different kinds of brands and variable goods provided in supermarkets. Conversely, supermarkets' performance is reliant on consumers' incomes and their willingness to spend. (IBISWorld, 2012)
Since 2009, there is an economic risk worldwide. However, In UK supermarket retailing is expected to achieve revenue of ￡134 billion in 2012-2013. Over these years, supermarket retailing not only hardly be affected by the recession of economy, but also it shows a sufficient share in national retail spending. IBISWorld, 2012)
In addition, with the development of supermarket industry, there are significant blocks for those new entrants in this industry. Because foremost among these hurdles there is the huge expense required to build a new store. Furthermore, for those existed supermarkets, they are still facing fierce competition especially in price.
